Reaper men - Monster Mash

Halloween came early to the Reapers. Last Friday’s game was definitely a Monster Mash of players playing out of position and to add to the Halloween theme the game started at None O’clock at night in Saskatoon. Normal Eight man, Steve Wytrykusz had to move to Loose head prop playing his first game at that position which is know as very technical position in the rugby world. Steve like always had a strong game. Niel Cook played his first game at second row, after getting his foot work sorted out he put in some very valuable minutes. Outside Center Chris Scramstad moved to where the men play into the forward pack as eight man. Chris was welcomed into the position by almost breaking his nose.
Playing out of normal playing position carried on through out the backs. Matters where made worse when Shaine Wald went out with a knee injury early on in the first half. His kicking boot was missed but Jason Ross and Brad Noble did a great job in his place.
The game was up and down the field for the majority of the game. Both teams enjoyed equal ball position and had made key tackles. One stand out in the reaper line up was Matt Nordal making key tackles and unselfish passing to create a reaper tri. Reapers had strong rucking but were dominated the scrums in the first half. As the game went on the scrums got better partly due to the better conditioning of the Reaper squad.
Reapers went ahead late 17 – 12 with ten minutes left in the game but were able to close out the Badgers. Badgers spun the ball wide and were held up on the Reaper 10 metre line and were adwared the scrum. However the Badgers asserted their dominance in the scrums and were able to spin the reaper scrum. From there the Badgers scored on the last play of the game, final score 17 all.
While the Reaper squad was mad to see the win slip out of their hands they still remain undeafted.
